A group of 37 students ventured north for an eye-opening experience visiting universities in Southern Utah.
On Thursday, February 15, students from Del Sol and Chaparral High School met before the break of dawn to embark on the Southern Utah college tour. Students ranged from the 9th to the 12th grade. For many students, this was their first overnight college tour with the Fulfillment Fund Las Vegas.
After a 3 hour bus ride, students made it to their first destination, Southern Utah University (SUU) in Cedar City, Utah. Here students learned about the opportunities at SUU, toured the campus, and experienced eating lunch in the dining commons like a college student. Following our visit to SUU the group traveled to Zion National Park where they received a presentation from a ranger about the wildlife found at the park and career possibilities in the field.
On the second day of the college tour students visited Dixie State University (DSU) where they received an inside look of the campus including the dorms, football field and library. Moreover, participants received a special presentation from a current DSU football player and Las Vegas native.
- “Being able to meet and talk to students who currently attend the university.” – Andranne, sophomore at Chaparral High School
- I enjoyed talking to current students, it was a unique experience. –Kelsey, senior at Del Sol Academy
When asked what is one thing you learned about college, one student said: “That it’s interesting and way less intimating than I thought.” – Romeo, junior at Del Sol Academy.
A special thank you to our sponsors who support the Fulfillment Fund Las Vegas in providing overnight college tours to our students.
